The Natal Chart
The interpretation of the natal chart has its own order and dynamic. It is a representation of how the different areas of one.s life are composed and function: money, communication, family, friends, children, lovers, work, health, spouses, society, sexuality, beliefs, professions, objectives and projects. Each element in the birth chart represents something to be developed, a seed which needs to be classified and sown according to adequate climate, season and soil, in order to obtain healthy fruit.

The birth chart symbolizes what we are, that is to say, what we attract and what we reject. It is the projection of our purpose and objectives, as well as of our fears and that which blocks us. The picture of the natal chart makes up the parts, the portions, the destiny which we are meant to experience.

The history of the person making the consultation reveals how he or she has integrated the energies in his or her system, or the way in which they have been excluded or projected onto other persons or situations. This endeavor helps to comprehend the disorders in the primary system, and to reconcile and integrate with the aspects that one has rejected.

The natal chart does not allude to that which will take place, but rather situates the person in the stretch of the map of his or her life and shows the client which possible paths he or she may take. It contributes in understanding who he or she is, and who he or she could be, if the energies are used in a more conscientious way.

The interpretation of the Natal Chart
The art of interpreting a natal map is based on the capacity of the astrologer to transmit to the client in a clear, simple and practical way, different aspects and combinations of his or her personality and destiny. This consists in translating the symbolic language of Astrology into an everyday language.

This account is likened to a .map for the journey. in which the capabilities of the client and his or her present circumstances on the path converge. This is how the propitious or opportune moments to make certain decisions, evaluate challenges or prepare for the future are established.

The most important objective in an interpretation is to illuminate the stretches of the journey, in which either the confusion or doubt, which usually invade our lives, appear. The knowledge of one.s own destiny within the Cosmos is a path which helps us to reestablish the lost order, to include what has been excluded or to reconcile ourselves with what was either distant or different. The love towards one.s own destiny implies that we must counterbalance the disorders and reestablish the hierarchies in the system, in order that love manifests in the fabric that unites human destinies.

A good astrologer believes in the concept of "finding the way out of destiny", of finding a creative solution. This has nothing to do with waiting for things to fall from the sky or wanting to change things, but rather to launch ourselves into experience and embrace it every day. This outlook helps us to redesign or recondition the way we act, think and feel. The astrologer, who possesses a profound and open way of seeing, can detect the correspondences between our strengths and personal limitations, the circumstances of our lives and the universal plan. When there is a complicated planetary transit, the method consists in guiding the person, with the objective of finding a key, so that he or she may respond in a creative and constructive way.

The cycles. The periods in the Natal Chart.
The astrologer interprets the structure of the map and its rhythm as an individual and unique given. The circulatory distance traveled by the planets marks a path that is divided into periods that are more fluid and others that are less so. Both periods are interpreted as a necessary crisis and an opportunity for growth.

Polarities and alchemy. Crisis, liberation and transformation.
The pain involved in a crisis takes on a new meaning when its content and value can be displayed. These periods of transition may serve to break or dissolve crystallized structures of one.s personality, or those defenses which have been constructed since a very early stage in life to protect ourselves from suffering. Freeing ourselves from these conditioned responses or .armors. is not an easy task, nor is it exempt from feelings of anguish and pain. Nevertheless, we know that a crisis is a great opportunity for a significant leap forward in our personal, family and social growth.

The periods in the cycles are indicative of the favorable and unfavorable moments in the different aspects of one life. It is true that a certain square can obstruct the execution of certain actions and signifies a challenge to be overcome, but it is also true, that if it is integrated correctly, it can strengthen and function as the basis for future realization. This vision of Astrology considers a difficult aspect as an appropriate period for making decisions, to develop the terrain and the resources in a different fashion, to reorient the will, and the will power needed to act in a beneficial way.

Once the structure of the birth chart and its dynamic has been understood, the planetary cycles are interpreted. The cyclic path of the planets is analyzed through the planetary transits, progressions and returns, indicators of the dates best suited for change and possibilities for growth. Each portion of the cycle has its duration: a date for its initiation, its development and its end. To know the periods not only calms and renders significance to that which is taking place, but also allows for the planning of a productive and efficacious organization of the processes, its stages and the opportunities that these signal.

Firstly, I study the slower planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, to orient the person towards an understanding of what is taking place at the root of the situation. I always review previous periods, to see what decisions the person made or to understand what happened previously. This delineates the present and strategic moment in which he or she finds him or herself and gives a clearer idea as to how the planetary movements affect the present and the future. I later observe the faster moving transits: the Moon, Mercury, Venus, the Sun and Mars, which determine more precise dates and periods in the financial, intellectual and love life spheres.

This means that for the client, the astrological counselor is a partner along the path. The astrologer can give, as a co-pilot the driver, an approximate idea of where the client is situated on the map of the journey, and the possible routes that will lead to the destination. This makes for an easier solution, although ultimately, it is the client who is the driver and decides where to go. This companion helps give a sense to the journey. It signals, much as a road sign would, the presence of a dangerous curve or of muddy terrain, or assists the client in finding the exit, when he or she is lost or at a crossroad.

Nevertheless, there is something of our mission or of the meaning of our own life that we can only discover for ourselves. Astrologers may discover the symbolic form that his or her mission possesses, but we cannot impose it. This is precisely what makes the astrologer, the effective partner along the path of the client-conductor. This is the way he or she points at the map and says .you are here..

The function of the professional astrologer in society
Is to indicate the periods of beginning, development and ending of the processes and their possible effects to the client, with the objective of preparing, using and following these events in a more conscientious and natural way. The location of the planets in the constellations and in the astrological houses of the birth chart, translate personal destiny that dances to the rhythm of the cycles of becoming.

The astrologer should communicate and orient the client in his or her potentialities and constructive and unconscious variables, which direct the energies on his or her map. His or her personal history and experience is taken into account, as well as how he or she functions on a systemic level in the family and, consequently in the social sphere. In this fashion, the explored regions of his or her territory can be evaluated, and the unexplored or as of yet not developed areas. This helps to understand the forces and the resources that need to be developed and polished to take advantage of the cyclic periods that have been signaled out in the chart with more wisdom.

The role of the astrologer has become very ambivalent in the last few years, until recently his or her function was perceived as predictive, in addition to some advice and instructions to abstain from doing certain things, or else, the impulse to advance in a given direction, without explaining the significance of what was happening. Generally speaking, the client projects onto the astrologer, among other things, the archetype of the magician or the soothsayer. This image corresponds to that of an omnipotent father or mother, in which the client is given a passive role. It his or her belief that he or she is giving power to an omniscient being, who will read his or her future, attempting in this fashion to solve all of his or her problems.

Some of the clients have the illusion that the astrologer will foretell them something that is infallible and positive about their future, and in some cases, they fear hearing negative predictions that describe something that is irremediable. This happens because it is difficult for us to take charge of our own lives, and to work on our weaknesses, our defects and disorders. The projection mechanism is one of the preferred defenses of the psyches to rid itself of the uncomfortable sensation of disorientation and pain. People tend to feel and think things like: "someone is guilty of what is happening to me.; .someone else will have the sufficient power which I lack, to predict my future and give me the solution to my problems..

The shadow of the astrologer emanates from the belief that Astrology possesses a predictive power.

On the other hand, Astrology has been debased by the trends based on Psychology. The schools which teach Astrology today are not generally based on the esoteric fundamentals that originally constituted the pillar of this ancient science. The objective of this knowledge is the evolution of man and it is based on the study of the ascending and descending cycles, or fluid and tense cycles which are signaled by the path of the planets, and which echo in the structure of the individual.

Many clients comment, after a consultation with an astrologer, that rather than an astrological interpretation, what they obtain is purely a psychological analysis, which is inconsistent with the analysis of the cycles of the birth chart.

Although it is true that the astrologer cannot leave aside the elements which help the client integrate elements that are excluded, unconscious or in the shadow, it is important that the astrologer provides ample and concluding information regarding the real sense indicated by the periods determined by the life cycles of his birth chart. A complete interpretation allows for the coming forth of the elements of the personality that have been excluded, reinforces the individual.s resources and sheds light on the possibilities which are signaled by the ascending and descending periods within the cycles. In this way, information is given which is pertinent to the client and which may help him or her find new significance to his or her experience, and create a plan which is in accordance with his or her personal timing.
